Rich has been chosen to work on many high profile documentaries in sometimes harsh environments where a ‘second take’ is not an option. His shoots with CBC’s Nature of Things, and educational science show, have taken him literally to all corners of the world. One episode shot in Borneo that Rich recorded for won Grand Prize at Banff Mountain Film.
Before trotting the globe with his boom mic, Rich attended the Television Broadcasting Program at Ottawa’s Algonquin College, then moved on to CBC in Toronto, honing his sound recording skills working on newsmagazine shows, documentaries and a variety of nationally broadcast programs.
Rich then moved on to CTV’s flagship investigative journalism show, performing sound duties shooting second camera for interviews and operating hidden cameras to capture more challenging moments more clandestinely! He recorded for many award-winning episodes including: ‘Off The Rails’, and investigation about safety at CN Rail, which one a Radio Televsion News Directors Association (RTNDA) Award, and ‘Mistaken Identity’, Alain Olivier’s story of being framed by the RCMP, which was nominated for a Canadian Association of Journalism Award (CAJ).
Rich is now back in Ottawa and works on a variety of lifestyle and documentary programming around the Nation’s Capital - and around the world.
When not on the road, or in an airport, Rich lives close to the Ottawa River in Canada’s capital with his wife and 2 sons.
